It’s time to remend your First Amendment, or create a 28th Amendment without being tripped up the 1st. Remember, keep the 2nd, at all costs, even to life and limb!! To keep Islamic tyranny at bay!

Despite the proliferation of and ludicrously easy access to guns in the States, Latin America far outstrips the US in terms of murders.

In a “free” society, there are still many people who want to control others and be an alpha dog. There are others who will freely give up rights to shirk responsibility.

You know, it’s funny. I sometimes watch a gag show called “Just For Laughs,” which is based in Quebec. Now, I don’t know how staged some of these gags might be, but most of the gag victims look like genuine, ordinary people. I watch these and see the reactions of the people during the gags and then when they realize they’ve been caught in a gag, and it’s all easy-going smiles and laughs. Some of the gags, such as when they hold up traffic for some ridiculous reason, are of a nature that I think would not go down well if tried in the US — the victims would get more enraged or offended or worse. OK, maybe they just don’t air the victims that did react in that way — but somehow the whole thing just seems friendlier than if the same exact show were attempted in the US. So, we could probably learn from our Canadian friends. Fortunately, I live in a quiet, very friendly neighborhood, one in which strangers readily say “hi” and “good morning.” So there are many good, good places in the US, despite the problems. But I don’t think I could make it in a place like NYC…

Comparing to “third world” countries for statistics in many areas just doesn’t make sense, including gun violence.

As often said, making ALL gun sales, and owners on a national level registered like my CCP, using my state’s standards for background checks etc to get a CCP would reduce “loose” firearms floating around over time, and would stop the flood of folks who really shouldn’t have ready access to guns. It would NOT take away guns, or restrict ownership any more than is specified in the “well-regulated” control of firearms established in the Constitution.

Of course, ultimately (and here I am the dreamer again), there would be no need for the entire concept of a military at all. And I think that to a large extent, as long as we keep thinking that we need to defend ourselves against each other, there will be people to defend ourselves from. A self-fulfilling prophecy, the law of attraction, call it what you will. In terms of humanity’s progress, I don’t want a well-regulated militia. The end goal for humanity (which I will also not see in my lifetime) is to not have a need for any sort of militia or military. It would be an outdated, alien concept. As long as the people of this planet keep the whole mindset that leads to rationalizing that they need a military, then they will.

Not sure I understand your post, wbr, but hope that the above shows that I could never be considered “happy” to have militias or military branches. Ultimately, and I know I keep using that word but yes, ultimately, the entire concept of needing such a thing should go the way of the dodo.

BTW: it’s “Smokey Bear” – he doesn’t have a middle name of “the”.

Hey, all you gun nuts, did you see this: Groups Converge for Mock Shooting Near University of Texas? That’s right—a gun march and mock shooting to show their support for the soon-to-be effective law allowing students to carry guns on campus in Texas, held at the University of Texas, home of the the first mass murder by a gun nut, back in 1966. What a sensitive and caring way to celebrate its 50th anniversary!
