A lot of us out here in realworldville figured out along time ago that big deal famous actors, athletes, singers and so on always got away with murder. So what’s new?

Pavarotti? Domingo? Caruso? Get with the times, you geezers. Jonas Kaufmann is the man today.

Someday someone will do a definitive book on the story of Las Vegas becoming a gambling place.

Guess, no one remembers the incredible voice of Jay Black, lead singer of Jay and the Americans singing Cara Mia. He could really belt it out for a pop singer and would have made an incredible opera singer.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mB-fsboUAFI

I can recall being hung out to dry for enforcing the rules I was told to enforce. Afterward, I went into my supervisor’s office and complained bitterly, and she was shocked when she realized what had happened.

Oh, and for great articles on Las Vegas figures, go to WFMU’s website and locate the writings of Kliph Nesteroff. He didn’t concentrate exclusively on Vegas, but he writes about the intersection of show biz and crime in fascinating (documented) detail. Till I read Kliph, I thought Shecky Greene’s story of how Sinatra ‘saved his life’ was just a hilarious joke. Turns out it actually happened, and it was a hilarious joke.

The Steve berating his employee is Steve Wynn, owner of the Casino in AC where this incident took place. Wynn faulted his own employees for trying to follow the law in the face of Sinatras racist threats, and did not object to their being suspended without pay but excused Sinatra as having “fun”.

Frank Sinatra wasn’t even the best singer in the Rat Pack.Sammy Davis first, then Dean Martin, then Sinatra because he was the only one left.Davis was the best dancer, Martin the best actor, and Sinatra had the mob connections that made him a star.

I like Jonas Kaufmann, but putting him ahead of Pavarotti and Domingo is a laugh. He’s certainly the best-looking of the three, possibly the best-looking tenor, period, but he’s probably not going to last anywhere near as long as the old timers did. I’d add Wunderlich and Bjorling to the list of tenors better than Kaufmann.

Tom Waits is a good song writer but I saw him live once, you might as well listen to the records…no stage presence, not much of a show, not Bad, but I expected more.
