Who am I to judge?

I have to say that I have always found it hypocritical that sports sites — all of them - predict games each week including the over/under, the odds, and the spread on the games, and then they are horrified to find that someone actually -- GAMBLED!

It gets complicated. Can players (coaches, officials, etc) be trusted to bet on games, and still do their best? Even if they bet on their own team, there is still point shaving, over/under, total points, etc. Fantasy Sports, does any one that can affect the outcome of the game, have money riding on the outcome?

The charge against Rose was he bet on games.

If a coach holds the winning score down against an over matched team, is that good sportsmanship or point shaving?

On August 23, 1989, Pete Rose signed the agreement, placing (5a) his name on the Ineligible List. On February 8, 1991, the Baseball HOF declared anyone on that list, ineligible for the HOF. Mr. Rose was an adult with legal representation when he signed the agreement. He ain’t eligible for the HOF. Get over it.

Big difference between the average Joe betting on sports and what Pete Rose did and then lied about it for 20 years. Big difference.

The Major League Baseball rule that Rose violated prohibits any bet on a game the bettor is involved in, making no distinction between betting for or against one’s team. The rule is: “Rule 21 Misconduct, (d) Betting on Ball Games, Any player, umpire, or club, or league official, or employee, who shall bet any sum whatsoever upon any baseball game in connection with which the bettor has a duty to perform shall be declared permanently ineligible.” Just leave it be, he agreed to the ban.

I am unclear on the concept that betting on individual performances is better than betting on team performances. Perhaps our commissioner could explain it to me.

There’s a handful (30 or so?) of guys using self-developed computer algorithms that take about 95% of all the prize money that’s paid off from these gambling services..If you’re not playing professionally, you’re one of the thousands of suckers.

Baseball is extremely hypocritical. They did and said nothing while juiced up Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa were battling it out to break Babe Ruth’s homerun record because it was good for the game. It renewed a lot of interest. Then they want to come in later and act like they have scruples and want to ban Barry Bonds, McGwire and everyone else who supposedly used steroids. I say you get what you asked for. You turned a blind eye (and even encouraged the use of performance enhancing drugs) so none of the individuals should be restricted from inclusion in the hall of fame. Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays were involved with a casino that was illegal by Major League rules but they were allow to remain in the hall because they were more likable than Rose or Bonds. Barry Bonds was a multi-MVP winner long before his “steroid” years. He belongs in the Hall and Pete Rose is the all-time hits leader and it had nothing to do with his gambling habit. If baseball can let Steve Howe get reinstated 7 times after failing drug testing then give these guys a second chance as well. Thank you and have a great day and a better tomorrow.
