Stone Soup by Jan Eliot for September 22, 2015
Transcript:
Phil: I know you worry, Val, but try not to... They'll probably move me to a desk job anyway. I'll end up training rookies. Val: Well, in the meantime, you still look pretty sexy on that bike. Phil: You're kinda working against yourself... Val: Gimme a smooch, Rambo.

Jan, my best wishes for your semi-retirement. Stone Soup and Ten Cats are my two absolute favourite comic strips. Thank goodness we still have Sundays to look forward to. I only came across Stone Soup in about 2009. I shall have to look for all the books, but I have never seen them here in South Africa. Perhaps Amazon has them for the Kindle…?

@dbsw Jan is semi-retiring. In October will be her final daily strip but she will continue Sunday strips. I am sad but understand the need to slow down and enjoy life.
JoanHelen, I enjoyed your help when Evie was building houses in South Africa. I wish there was a way I could mail you some books.

Went back and looked at the information, the final week of daily strips will be the week of October 12th. Then there will only be Sunday strips. We are sure going to miss each other.

Oh great, time for this programmer to look for a new early morning successor.

Sigh, I now need to find another strip to replace this one??? If any of you have suggestions, I read most of what are probably the more popular strips like Arlo and Janis, but I have really gotten into Stone Soup.

I only discovered this strip a couple of months ago. Seems like every time I find a good comic, they quit. Sigh……

I’m sorry for it to end but I hope Gocomics runs the strip from the beginning.

Oh, sorry to hear this. I only read Stone Soup & For Better or Worse, which is not new, but I missed the early ones so it is still new to me.

They might do like they have with Fox Trot, which also does a Sunday comic only.

We all saw this coming ever since Evie’s wedding :( To me it is a sad day, but I understand since I am thinking more and more about retirement myself.

Another comics that is nice is Ben by Daniel Shelton. Story of retired Great-Parents and the juggling of limited income, baby-sitting, and Hobbies. Ben is my husband to the T but with the handiman skills.Stone Soup, Heart and Ben were my morning Smiles. I just hoped we can connect with each other a bit more than sunday only. (Better stop, emotions, losing my english grammar….sniff!)

Rambo wasn’t a cop, how about Judge Dred instead?

Perhaps we’ll be fortunate and they’ll do like FBOW and replay all the strips from the beginning. Oh please say you will

Dear Jan: I sure will miss the daily glimpses into the lives of these people, but I’m glad you will still let us visit them on Sundays. Best of luck to you in this time of transition to more enjoyable days on your end of things, and thank you for all you’ve shared with us so far! This is one of the very best cartoon strips in existence!

Will Gocomics keep the archives so we can go back and pull up all the previous strips?

To Jan I want to join in I do wish you well on semi retirement before you completely retire. There is so much more you can do with your SS strip. We will miss you. Wish the children grow up become productive adults. I been reading this strip longer then I thought and fell in love with your store.

I wish I could retire at 60. I’m now 66 and probably have 6 more years to go.

Doonesbury’s in reruns. For Better or For Worse is in reruns. Now Stone Soup is going into reruns just as Val gets hitched.
It’s like watching old friends die, one by one.

So sad to see this strip go. I will definitely miss it. Val and Co. have been a delight to follow. Thank you for what you’ve given us, Ms. Eliot.

What?? No… :-( I know it’s difficult doing comics on a daily basis, but I love Stone Soup!!
chemgal over 8 years ago
Also sad to see this go. For those who only started reading it recently, I felt the same way with Cul de Sac when it ended, as I had only come across it near the end. For those looking for another strip, one on my list that may appeal to similar audience is Frazz.
noreenklose over 8 years ago
I hope they rerun the strip from the beginning. I’ll miss it.They could call it “Stone soup Classics” like they do for Foxtrot, and run the new “Sunday” one beside it.Please? ;-D
