Back when I worked in retail, there was one day where a little boy – about 4 years old-ish – was being a little hellion while his mother was waiting in line at the register. Finally, in a sickly-sweet voice, the mother said, “If you’re not good, Santa won’t bring you any presents.” “I don’t care,” the little boy said, “I’ll still get stuff from Grandma and Grandpa!”
It “pays” to have grandparents who want to spoil you and/or make up for the times they didn’t have funds to buy extravagant gifts for their children, since they were still struggling…It happened in our family. My parents were exceptionally generous to our children both with money and with fancy gifts.
