Trump represents the opinions of a partisan segment of society, that chooses to accept a package deal (not unlike a cable bundle). Trump echoes populist conservative emotional responses to opinion propaganda. This is an unfortunate by-product of our winner-take-all political system and the entrenched 2 party oligarchy which represent not the majority, but 2 extreme views rather than the moderate superposition of these ideologies that the founders had hoped for and ends up with the voters having to select the least harmful extremist rather than the most productive moderate candidates.

If you count “everyone running for president but Ted Cruz and 80% of those Republicans in congress or state government” as the “Republican elite,” I guess you could say that it’s only those people whom Trump is attacking and who are upset that he’s doing so well. I’m waiting until the Republican base finds out what it is, actually, that Trump plans to do when in office.
