Glad to see Jim Morin is using the correct term ISIL instead of the dumbed-down media alternative “ISIS.” We Americans need to understand the difference in the use of the terms ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria) and ISIL (Islamic State in Iraq and Levant). The more correct, broader term is ISIL. This incorporates the reference to the term Levant, a long-time historic reference to a geographical area that includes Syria, but also includes Jordan and parts of Lebanon and southern Turkey. Use of the term ISIS (Syria only) is more limited — a dumbed-down substitution that thinks the older reference to Levant can’t be understood by real people and insults the American intelligence — and downplays the seriousness of the threat, perhaps because much of the media deals in dumbed-down communications and underestimates the capacity of its audience to understand. Use of the term ISIL (Levant) also explains why those in Jordan and Turkey also fee threatened by the true scope of the threat, and if we are to aggressively deal with these terrorists, we should not minimize or downplay the extent of their claims and who they are threatening.

Stay away from movies, far less safe than going back in the water it would appear.

Only two died, but far more than that number got shot. It qualifies both as a mass shooting and as a tragedy.
