Trump is using techniques of hatred against the party of hatred.
The last presidential election, it was Newt Gingrich. Gingrich’s castigations of Willard the ChickenHawk were extremely effective and might well have destroyed Romney’s entire campaign. Republican Party leaders had to make him back off.
Trump seems less likely to submit than Gingrich, mostly because he has even less substance than Gingrich. Republicans like Graham are horrified when their techniques of hatred are used against them, thus the characterization of Trump as a ‘wrecking ball’.
They are, of course, gleeful whenever wrecking ball techniques are used against any Democrat, especially against Obama and Hillary.
