Why couldn’t they be arguing about something important, like which end of the egg to break open. Then they could come to a Swift decision.

Times like this I’m glad I’m from the Pleiades. Sadly my ride is parked at Groom Lake.

Johanan: Either Either-Or is a fallacy or it isn’t. Either you agree or you don’t.

There can be no rational thought without Either-Or. So where’s the fallacy? (This is not to be confused with the False Dichotomy. That IS a fallacy.)

Yes, pshearer, I believe he was really talking about false dichotomy. One cannot survive, let alone thrive without eventually choosing one thing over another. However, false dichotomy is often referred to as “either-or” thinking, and I believe that’s what Johanan Rakkav meant.

Over precision in language merely makes a person appear to be a pedantic prig.

If Klaatu came back today, he’d probably have Gort split the Earth in half. (I’m talking about the original classic, not the remake.)

I like my prigs pedantic. It makes them more predictible, perhaps positively personable.

It is not a matter of eithor -or. We should wear both robes and gems on our heads. The key thing is that we have to shave our heads.
