Two people happen across the Pope as he delivers his climate encyclical. Man: Why in God's creation is he talking about that? Woman: You just answered your own question.
The Pope is ONLY infallible on matters of Church doctrine.Just like us, he is entitled to his opinion.Every time any Pope starts in talking about the poor, I wonder why he doesn’t sell a few statues and paintings, and land…and give that money to the poor.Jesus said “The poor will be with you always.”—-He was right. The Pope doesn’t DO anything about problems, he just says that we should.
While you can get some sense of what’s in the encyclical from the media, I recommend that everyone actually read it. It’s long, and I’m less than halfway through it, but I could tell shortly into it, that it is a revolutionary piece. .Also, note that it isn’t directed just to Catholics; it’s directed to every person on the planet.
Thank you Tom Toles, for a great cartoon! As noted above, it’s directed to everyone sharing this earth, not just Catholics. And as for the inevitable snarky [and inaccurate] comments about Catholicism, well…we’re used to that. God bless you.
The pope has declared that we need to take care of each other and be good stewards of our environment. How refreshing! It’s wonderful to see the pope write about climate change. He should. We need to hear this from all those who can influence how we react to this threat to large numbers of our species and many other species as well. His other radical message has to do with taking care of each other. That is, not stressing the individual as much as we do, particularly here in the US. I get it. As a terribly interconnected person (as we all are), but a true American, I have expressed my individual autonomy more than most and have been fortunate enough to benefit as a consequence. But we are not fully human without other humans, obviously. So there has to be a balance, the pope says and an awareness to take care of each other. So what’s wrong with that?
This isn’t the first time this has happened you know.Remember when Pope John Paul II came out against Bush’s Iraq war? I saw one Rightwing-Lemming after another bashing him as SENILE.But you want to know the part that REALLY makes me want to LMAO?Think about it. According to the righties when Bush was Pres, HE was right and the Pope was wrong…and NOW they call Obama ‘the left’s’ Messiah!’No, we NEVER worshipped President Obama the way you worshipped Bush

ChevJames007: It doesn’t take an encyclical, he’s just firing them all over the place – especially their episcopal protectors.
