Dad! I want more dessert after dinner. I'm acting as my own lobbyist to request a rule change. I am prepared to give you a dollar every time I scream is served after a meal. Forget it! That's not lobbying, that bribery. Okay, what if instead I give you a dollar every day just because I like you, but if you ever stop serving ice cream, I stopped giving you money. It's a deal! That’s a generous bribe. It doesn’t spoil him. I’d go for it.

No, no, this works out. At $1 a bowl, the only way to make a profit is to serve him the really cheap crap. And, given that “his” $1 is really the allowance you gave him and you’re now getting this money back, this “lobbyist” is volunteering to accept an inferior product in place of cash of greater value. Keep training him this way, and we may have a generation of lobbyists that intentionally starve themselves to death.
