Yeah, this doesn’t make much sense, HabaneroBuck. What IS in the bottle? Why does it have a death’s head in it? And if it IS something toxic, does that mean that Oliphaunt is mocking the environmentalist and the president for thinking that they have a magic solution which will only make matters worse?? Dunno

And I also find the use of the word “faggy” particularly offensive.

Has Rush defended BP in this situation? I don’t listen to him because I find most of what he says to be offensive no matter what words he uses. But the enviornmental disaster taking place in the Gulf right now is an obscenity on a par with 9/11 if we don’t get this thing fixed yesterday! In the mean time, I’ll still complain about gas prices, which will go up as the cost of the clean up is passed on to BP customers. Companies never pay.

“Has Rush defended BP in this situation?”

Limbaugh has said that the ocean will clean it up, “it’s natural.” Therefore this spill isn’t a problem and we shouldn’t be concerned about it.

    Neo-con Pleas:

Please just nobody notice we’re calling Obama the same thing they called Bush during a crisis. Please don’t notice we’re calling for a Government bail out of a disaster caused by a private industry and we’ve been reviling this guy for doing the SAME THING since he stepped into the office. Isn’t it socialism for the government to step in and make a private industry pay for this clean up? Or to even clean it up itself?

Now THAT’S a really inconvenient truth.

I’m offended by your being offended!

Seriously, when will we ever, as a society, get over this stupid over-sensitive politically-correct garbage? I read an article this morning about the new “dark wii.” It’s called “dark” because they’re afraid of calling it “black.”

The price of gas and it’s supply/demand elasticity is in essence the oil companies fail safe insurance policy.

Gives a whole new meaning to premium…

Those of you who are offended by the use of “faggy”, are you offended by the use Oliphant puts it to, or offended that he used it at all? For myself, I find it offensive, yet appropriate nonetheless.

It’s an offensive word in an offensive statement expressing an offensive attitude towards an offensive situation. The cartoon as a whole, however, does not offend me in the least.

Billdog- this morning Rush also noted the “FRESH WATER SEA TURTLES” were dying in Galveston- you know, those sea turtles rooted in the rock upriver, like limpets that don’t swim around in the Gulf at all to contact the slick.

George Orwell was a piker compared to Limbaugh’s constant “newspeak” tirades.

I guess the limbauciles buy it.

“How did the skull get inside the bottle?” Easy, Oliphant used pen and ink and put it there. It’s a message.

One overlooked side-effect of oil spills is the corresponding rise in the price of India Ink, as demand by editorial cartoonists skyrockets. (Blizzards, however, result in a drop in price.)

There are associative bells ringing in this cartoon, along the lines of “It’s easy to release the genie from the bottle, but hard to get it back in” or even “That genie’s already out of the bottle”, but I can’t quite make them out.

(Given the subject matter, I wonder whether an oil lamp wouldn’t have been more appropriate than a bottle.)

Two-fold message: the Environmentalist and the President both have pie-in-the-sky hopes that the situation can be salvaged. The Arch-conservative simply does not care, since the only reality is the economy, specifically, HIS stash of money.

The slap in the face: whatever hope the Environmentalist and the President express is dead on arrival. The solution is fantasy in the first place, and the problem has already gone too far.

    Deep pessimism, here.

I thought so too. Oliphant really captured the essence of the “arch-conservative.”

To all of you who feel word “faggy” is offensive and inappropriate: I’m a Homer sexual and it does not bother me at all. As a matter of fact it very appropriate as Pat is trying to “stereotype” a stereotype group.
