Does anybody do this any more? I did it as a kid back in 1950-something but managed not to get tangled.
Now I can’t see one without thinking of “The Wicker Man” from the ’70s.
You can’t wrap a maypole with an odd number of people. Maybe that’s why she got tangled up.

It’s the centerpiece to many a pagan / Wiccan Beltaine ritual. so yes, in both North America and Europe. I just saw one done at a Unitarian church.
