Speech is free and the students will not go to jail for their words, Frank. The university is simply acting on guidelines they set, not to restrict speech, but to avoid hostilities between students and to maintain the peace. Had the fraternity been respectfully and politely debating advantages they felt were being unfairly given to minorities, there would be no punishments. A few years ago, a white girl sued because she felt the laws requiring blacks be given a certain percentage of open slots kept her out of her school of choice. She did so with dignity and maturity. No one went to jail though some were angry with the outcome. We do have freedom of speech, and the right to satirize. The University has the right to decide if that speech is disruptive to the campus, and duty to prevent conflict. Were a black fraternity to post similar comments referring to “red neck crackers”, and "White bread honkys:, I would expect the University to act the same way.Respectfully,C.

Not hate speech coupled with threats of violence. That’s called terrorism.
