I was going to ask how old was Frank….then I realized he said Grandpa. … It was Grandpa who kept an outhouse. Grandpa probably had indoor plumbing put in between family visits. Then hid the “water closet”. Just for fun. but made up for it with churning ice cream and other treats

A really upscale outhouse would have two: one from Sears and one for Montgomery Ward.

That might work. If you built it on a hillside.

An upscale outhouse was a two hole’r. My folks had a single hole’r in the back of the barn (attached to the house)….better than having to go outside during the winter, but still a cold walk through the barn to get there.

Ooh…Grumbel’s? Crossover with Norm Feuti’s “Retail” commencing?

I would like to point out that ’Grumbel’s’ is a store in my friend Norm Feuti’s comic strip ‘Retail’. It’s not here on gocomics- as it’s with the ‘other’ syndicate, but it’s a really well done comic strip. Everybody say “WOOOOOO” for crazy cross-pollinating between syndicates!

I thought Grumbles was a play on Gimbels. Just looked; Retail ain’t my style.

I’m (barely) under 50 yet, and I grew up with an outhouse. Of course we did have indoor plumbing, but then the septic tank had to be cleaned out once a year, and that cost money, and one outhouse hold would last 3-5 years.

The basic rule of thumb was, if the sun is up, and the temp’s above freezing, you better be using the outhouse!

@dzw3030That web site said not complete plumbing inside so it is confusing as to what qualifies. But I know in the county I live in there are still houses with functional outhouses grandfathered in under the law, so the local gov can not make them take them down. Despite what the local / neighboring housing HOA police think of it.

I think Frank would give anything to have the “Good ol’ Days” back again!

Especially where potty humour is concerned.

Now that’s not a nice thing to say about a real pretty building. All that lovely wood and stone work. hope they repair those bullet holes.

I actually thought you were referencing something other than the actual building. I just figured to go in a different direction than your post. …. after all – it is a lovely building despite the fact I still don’t have my Peace Tower flag. (though it would have helped if I actually wrote in and asked for one.)
