The root problem, methinks, is that you don’t like the choice 53% of the voters made. Ok, sure, you don’t have to like it. Then you say that every last one of “them” is a no-good wastrel who wanted something for nothing? That’s the point that you tipped into the partisan vitriol with no substance.
No, Gorebane, they did “look further”, at least as much as those who supported your choice (which I take was not Obama). A lot of “them” ARE tax-paying, honest working people, just like a lot of “you”. Apparently you think it’s impossible to dislike the course America had taken in the last eight years. That it is impossible to think that in the middle of an economical freefall (which the other party’s candidate didn’t even recognize in its first days) maybe another way was possible. That the political and economical dogma that you might be as much as challenged, much less wrong.
50% pay, in the end, no income taxes? Gee whiz, how could it have happened with several tax breaks and a recession reducing incomes across the board? Ugh, seriously, this is all a matter of taxation scheme and policies, not an evil conspiracy aimed at your freedoms. Nor is it a particularly partisan one - under Coolidge that figure (those not paying any income taxes) was 90%, right in the apogee of the Gilded age, a time when the conservative principles of today all but reigned supreme.
Not to mention that by and large, the people who had companies large enough to bail out (the toon’s premise) are NOT the people who shouldn’t pay income taxes. If they don’t, thank the legal loopholes and cutbacks afforded to the rich, not the poor. Ramirez’ point is basically nonsense.
