My previous university employer would often get its police force involved for every termination, especially for faculty who have a lot of legal protections. They would come out, find no crime had been committed, but would ticket the person anyway for “disorderly conduct” and send them home. If they did find a evidence of a crime, it was usually shoddy at best. I bet many a corporation would love it if they could get the legislature to grant them police powers.

I heard of one situation in which a college’s IT guy put a logic bomb on the campus computer system: if his name failed to appear on the master list of employees, then a computer virus would activate and tank everything. []The police and the faculty staff escorted him directly out of the building so that he couldn’t activate it ahead of schedule before the new IT guy could kill it. []Since then, the policy of the facility is supposed to be “if anyone gets fired, they’re removed from the building immediately; their desk will be cleaned out and their belongings will be mailed to them.”
