Democrats created the jim crow lawsYes. And then the Dems passed Civil Rights legislation. That pissed off the Dixiecrats, most of whom then joined the Republican Party. Today it’s the Republicans who are reviving the Jim Crow laws.

Its almost as bad as modern day (and recently deceased) Democrat Robert Byrd being a former member of the KKK. Too bad the mainstream press never pursued this story.

Scalise says, “I detest any kind of hate group.” So why is he in the GOP?

Ah yes, I see the ueual insulting comments from another of our extreme ultra conservative right wingers here.

To say nothing of an exteme lack of knowledge of American history. Yes, before and through the Civil War, it was the Southern States Democrats that expounded the ideals of African American slavery. But that DID change when LBJ got the Civil Rights Act passed, and those very same Democrats then became Republicans, of which they have stayed ever since!!

Not only that, but they are still fighting the Civil War, and therefore hate that Yankee controlled federal government with a passion. They are not attempting to just reduce the size of that government, what they really want to do is to destroy it entirely. And the ultimate insult to them is to have an African American POTUS. Which explains their extreme hatred of our current president!

Good heavens! There are times when I do wish that Abraham Lincoln had just let them all go and establish their own country. But that did not happen, so now we have to deal with their continued ignorance and hatred. While as a true Christian I can not return their hatred, I certainly can have an extreme distaste for their ideals and actions! Oh well….

Remember in history the Democrats were the Conservatives and the Republicans (especially the 1st one – Lincoln) were the ultra Progressive/Liberals of their day. But I am sure you have probably never read any history – Just what others have told you.

The toon rightly portrays what IS the Republican party of today, as opposed ot what WAS indeed the Democratic party of around 60 years ago and before Byrd confessed his “sins” of youth, and that he regretted his “former self”.

Reliving history is of value, when seeing how things CHANGE, or not. LBJ summed up in 1965 what would be the change, and he was right.

Well, Scalise confessed and apologized, so he’s either right that he did it, or he’s out of touch with reality.

Don’t lecture me, kid! I know my country’s history quite well! Democrats are trying to steal history for their benefit. They say Democrats that created the KKK and kept slavery alive 150 years ago, and Democrats that voted against Civil Rights 50 years ago are today’s Republicans. How can that be? Abraham Lincoln was a Republican and ended slavery, and I support what he did. Republican THEN, Republican NOW! LBJ and Democrats fought against the civil rights until Republicans gave LBJ no choice but to sign it, and then LBJ said he could then use it to keep blacks voting tor them for years to come. Democrats using blacks for votes THEN, Democrats using blacks for votes NOW! I won’t let Democrats steal history from us!

The parties were originally Federalists (only two White House occupants, and the first denied actual party affiliation), and the Democratic Republicans. The “Republcian” party started with Lincoln, who set free some, and set off the most damaging war in U.S. history. Hmm, a “progressive” act. (But not the sole cause of the Civil War, as there was significant economic drive for war.)
