Stocks: The feds won’t let the market adjust itself naturally, instead they print money as if it’s Monopoly money. So of course the DOW is going up artificially.Cheap Gas: When the gas is high, Obama and Dems say Presidents don’t control gas prices, but when it’s down he takes credit?Help Wanted: “I guess shovel ready jobs aren’t so shovel ready” – ObamaHealthcare: Millions of people had to get new healthcare that already HAD healthcare because Obamacare made their old insurance obsolete. The rest of the people that didn’t have it before are getting it free/low because working taxpayers are footing their bills.Iraq/Afghanistan: Finishing a war by just declaring it done despite the enemy thinking otherwise. Yeah, that’ll go over well….

One wonders how many other things might have been improved had the GOP and Democrats been willing to work together, and how much sooner would the results we see now have been seen. There is still much to be done, and the GOP is already drafting bills to submit as soon as their majority is in office that will repeal many things that have been done and implement social changes they have been successful in passing in states where they hold a majority in state legislatures. But except for offshore drilling and oil pipelines and easing regulations on polluters and industries safety standards, I’ve not heard of any job creating bills.Respectfully,C.

I guess Fox news doesn’t report about the US economy doing significantly better than most other economies in the world. The stock market seems to be holding up just fine, If we could just get US companies to stop sitting on a pile of cash, especially what they have stashed off shore and do some investing in the future we would really see some growth. The ACA really seems to be taking hold and working. We really need a universal health care system that permits the poor to receive decent medical care. Being poor should not prevent sick people from getting the care they need. If we can keep the Republican Congress from involving us in another fruitless, trillion dollar war we should be OK.

The 114th congress will have an opportunity to show that they can responsibly govern for the whole US population (not just their dwindling, aging, base) and allow bipartisan legislation to pass thus assuring their re-election in the future. The population of the US has more than doubled in my lifetime and so have many of its problems. The distinction between heath care and insurance seems to be muddled. Many of the successful businesses, use lean processes, in which value is added at each step, preventative maintenance is regularly applied, and any unnecessary step is eliminated. Many middle managers lost their positions due to this, but efficiency and productivity have grown. Many processes have been more precise and have been automated to reduce labor content and human error.

At the macro level there have been mergers and acquisitions that have made many jobs redundant …many high tech industries have surprising small labor requirements…, as automation and efficiency of processes continually improve. There is essentially zero unemployment in Silicon valley and its east coast equivalents and while these businesses are competing with each other to get the most skilled employees, about 2/3 of the US work force do not have a college degree and cannot meet the needs of these companies. If the 114th congress can address these problems and find ways to sustain the consumer class which is essential to capitalism, and furnish the aging population with health care needs without breaking the budget, their future is assured.

" His predecessor was as quick to put the credit where it belongs as Obama is to claim it for himself."Post where Pres. Obama is claiming the fall of gas prices is his doing.

I am interested in what you have to say about people who have worked since High School, put themselves through State/Community College, worked through their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s 50’s, then suddenly lost their jobs due to shipping their job overseas, downsizing to increase profits, lost much, or all of their retirement savings to corporate malfeasance, and because of their age (40 or older) cannot find employment with wages & benefits they once EARNED, and…..Oh, I forgot. With the DOW at an all-time high, and Wall Street doing great, these PEOPLE are no longer on Washington’s radar!

“After all, if we was so smart I hardly think we would be spending time here of all places.”If I can ever get a full-time job again (and at my age, 62, it is not easy) you will not see many more posts from the old moose. By commenting here, I can at least feel a bit less useless. Plus, I do learn things, at times from my communist and nazi friends!
