oldwolf1951: Try picking cotton, as contrasted to pulling which is bad enough, and you will want gloves too. That’s why it is done mechanically nowadays. Egypt was a major cotton region back then.

Egypt was Roman province at that time…not sure where you are going with this reference to the Roman Empire

Yes, I know this. What I was getting at with the Roman Empire is that it was an occupying power in Palestine, just as many Mexicans would still argue is the case for much of the Southwest US.

And then when Jesus & Co. fled to Egypt, though it was also under Roman rule, it was not exactly their home country.
