    The Keystone pipeline will create “35 permanent jobs” after construction, according to a government report. Rated “true” by PolitiFact.35 employed out of 350 million people in the US. That’s 0.00001%. (10-5 percent).

    The primary purpose of Keystone is to get Canadian shale oil to the Gulf refineries and shipping ports so they can sell it on the international market. The pipeline will benefit the energy companies and do very little for the average American. We bear the environmental risks while the energy industry makes money.

    You had the space to draw all 35 permanent workers…why didn’t you?

    “…The Keystone pipeline will create “35 permanent jobs” after construction, according to a government report. Rated “true” by PolitiFact….”

    Do they include all of the truck drivers carrying finished products? What about the manufacturing and retail jobs that will increase because of increased oil refining? What about the increase in shipping if they ship the oil overseas?There will be a lot more than 35 permanent jobs created, not to mention the decrease in the price of oil and gasoline and manufactured products.

    @Balto Bill

    You should explain that to the 35 people who would get those jobs. Also all the ones who would get at least temporary work building the pipeline. Once you explain the numbers, I’m sure they’ll be happy with staying unemployed.

    According to the owner of the pipeline company the Keystone will create 35 -50 permanent jobs. It will also take private land by force and give it to a foreign company, harm the environment and infringe on Native American rights. But it will also make the very rich even richer, so by G.O.P. standards it’s a great idea.

    As some posters above have written, there is much more at stake here than just TEMPORARY construction jobs..Please go to your library and read the front-page story in The New York Times about the numerous, unreported (and forgiven!) oil spills in North Dakota. Then, you can return here to comment.

    Actual history: We got the Ruby natural gas pipeline, it promised 1,400 jobs, and more than 50 permanent jobs. We got 800 jobs for a few months, stores that “built up” to handle that “flood” of workers expected, went bust and closed, and we ended up with zero new jobs, some 15 lost (small town).

    Now, the gas companies are asking for folks to group up and support the extension of that line to the coast, so the Wyoming gas we need so “desperately” in the U.S., can be liquified, and sent to China, to reduce the impact of their burning the coal they get from Kentucky. Hmm, would Cheney/Koch/McConnel/Landreu/Perry fingerprints be on this jobs mythology?

    “and how many “permanent” jobs will a bridge create? let us be honest here. The Keystone will create thousands of jobs and benefit the Nation with lower cost of carbon based fuels and products and those that process it. It will also have an impact on the world supply.”Yes, let’s be honest. Building the pipeline creates temporary jobs. Congress can spend that money creating temporary jobs rebuilding and replacing bridges. The oil will be sold on the same world market as OPEC, who will just cut oil production elsewhere to regulate oil prices. The pipeline would create a danger of leaks, and processing the tar sands oil will create a huge amount of toxic waste left for the US to deal with.The pipeline represents envirnmental risks, toxic sludge, and no realistic hope for cheaper gas prices. That money is better spent on creating the same amount of temporary jobs fixing and replacing bridges. At least that will improve transpiration safety. The Canadians can process their own oil.

    The bulk of jobs will be short term. When it’s up and running there will be around 50 permanent jobs.

    " It’s a freaking PIPE!"

    …and that pipe will develop leaks along it’s 2000+ miles, providing jobs for environmental clean-up crews!

    Sorry Harleyquinn, but the CEO of Trans Canada admitted that there will only be 50 permanent jobs. You watch way to much FOX news. You have a computer, find out for yourself. There is nothing liberal or conservative about the truth.
