The mechanism of the penalty was never kept secret: if you don’t get insurance, you pay a penalty and the IRS collects it. Who cares if you call it a tax or not?
You do know you are comparing apples to oranges. But just so you know. The Constitution does grant Congress the power to regulate trade & commerce between the state.
“Gruber? I think he’s just some unknown advisor”.Is that why you named him as one of your biggest influences back in 2006, Barry? Or that you paid him over 600k to help BS the low-information crowd into thinking Obama(non)Care would lower everybody’s health costs by $2500 a year and that if you liked your Dr, you could keep your Dr? I’m sure he just slipped your mind.
The interesting thing I find about those, it seems always “conservatives”, claiming “it isn’t in the Constitution”, have never bothered to read the document, especially the Preamble that in fact states the PURPOSE of said document.
It’s also interesting those same folks found Article II to be the sole source of power when “W” was abusing it, but now they say it doesn’t exist now that Obama has finally said he would USE it!
While Gruber was indeed an outspoken “loose lip” type, taken out of context in most of the current controversy, it simply is a fact that far more people have been helped by the ACA than Republicans predicted.
Hmm, and all those lies about WMDs killed many times more people, American and otherwise, than those spreading them to start wars, predicted. Not to mention the more than $3 trillion, so far, down the tubes on those wars that Iraq has not, and will not, pay back. Just the billions shipped IN CASH that disappeared under Bremer’s “administration” of Iraq, proves how competent they weren’t.
Yea you libs are very good at hypocrisy! And what is sorely needed in this country is people talking responsibility for themselves. Not expecting the other people (through the redistribution of wealth) to provide them with the things they want or think they deserve.
Fishdog: “War on Iraq” by Pitt and Ritter, spelled out all the “intel” in 2002, and it proved correct, and that Bush folks lied and KNEW what the real intel was, NO viable WMDs, and no nuclear program.
Fishdog: a last “minor” point, my son was in Iraq with one of those groups trying to find VIABLE chemical weapons and WMDs, they found nada, just some old obsolete, inactive and degraded, or corroded out shells.(Which is exactly what recent and current reports have said.) He WAS on the wrong end of IEDs using current AMERICAN artillery rounds the “bad guys” got their hands on, but those were HE rounds. In one case, they figured the truck had 17 105 rounds in it when the guy set it off. That is one big BOOM!, and a part of why he’s now a disabled retired veteran. (Which, the Pentagon is claiming his injuries from Iraq aren’t “combat related” so they deduct his VA disability from his retirement pension, when even their own report denying his appeal noted his injuries WERE combat related. It’s a ploy the military branches have used in an effort to reduce the Pentagon’s “costs” in, well, NOT taking proper care of our veterans.) The VA has done their best to help him, it’s the Navy and Pentagon screwing these guys, thousands of them, over!

The Constitution does give Congress the authority to attend to the General Welfare not individual welfare.
