College football is slowly degrading to the condition that professional sports are now in. One year, a .500 team got into the NFL championship playoffs. This year, two second place baseball teams duked it out for the “World Championship.”
Much of the joy, mystery, and intrigue of college football is that we didn’t boil down championships to some playoff series. In college football, every game mattered. I hate to see that end.
