Do they have money saved for all of this iCrap? Is he actually encouraging them to go into credit card debt? Someone get Suze Orman on the line (please) and fire this guy. I hardly suspect they have a 2-day emergency fund, must less 8 months.

Emergency fund, shamergancy fund. My job is secure. If we blow off the mortgage this month, we can go to Hawaii.

Kick this guy to curb. NOW! What kind of an account tells a client to spend, and showoff like that?

Baggybut - the kind that is kindred spirit to Lemont’s shrink in Candorville. Dilbert’s pointy-haired boss. Jon from Garfield. And all humans portrayed in Over the Hedge. The pen-and-ink kind.

Raging irrational clueless incompetence is comic GOLD!

Let’s see…techno-stuff is usually obsolete in (best guesstimate) 5 years….dress shoes can last up to 10 if only worn occasionally….

Seems to me Cathy’s shoe perchases last longer than anything you purchase, Irving.

It’s all HER money. She can buy all the shoes she wants.

This accountant is giving advice to individuals that is only used on business to reduce excess cash at year end, usually by buying new computers or equipment, so you owe less. This doesn’t work for individuals, unless it’s Cathy Inc.

He’s completely off his rocker. Run before he lands you in jail. I saw that deranged look in his eye two days ago. This clinches it.

It’s about time they brought an iPad into the strip for Irving!

Techno-stuff is obsolete by the time you get it home. If you can buy it, it’s already outdated.

This reminds me of something I heard on the radio yesterday. Baby Boomers are doing everything their parents told them NOT to do (Cathy’s leeches-in-law notwithstanding): save your money, don’t spend more than you have, and never assume you’ll always have a source of income. Not that my fellow Gen X-ers–and some Gen Y-ers–are any better. This is exactly why I asked my GRANDparents for financial advise: I trust a generation that survived the Great Depression and already learned their lessons more than their spendthrift (grand)kids.

I love it that the accountant is reverting to just Being A Guy. It’s very honest of him. Either that, or he’s being sarcastic to ridicule Irving, but I don’t think so. I wasn’t sure til I remembered that in the past he’s been awfully into tech mastery of his data. Cathy’s taking it awfully well - just a mild sizzle. She must not expect any longer that he’ll be anything but a Guy. Very funny strip!

I’m noticing that this week there are far fewer comments than most weeks recently, when the topic was shopping, procrastination, domestic disarray, etc. Maybe serious money worries and the IRS just aren’t as funny this year?

I can help inflate the comment count, though:

Yesterday, someone said “my only joy” was

making more out of everything than I ever implied or intended

Not so! I enjoy comics, for example. Stretching others’ words wouldn’t get me anywhere I want to go - and I doubt it gets anybody anywhere useful.

When I write here, I’m only stating what I myself make out of everything. I truly liked a video. I truly think others might not. It’s nonsense to make any more out of what I said than that. I could add that I’m a guy, after all, so it’s always only all about me! But seriously, it never was about anyone else. So I don’t feel I’ve struck out on any character testing here.

Nobody owes me an explanation or reply in any event, so anybody who wants to give up on doing that for me is entirely right.

Uh Oh, time for a female accountant – I always did find this one condescending toward Cathy – this is totally blatant!

And I’m a “boomer” who saves, just like my parents and grandparents before me, and I owe absolutely no money anywhere – even the house is paid for.

Is the accountant getting a sales commission on the iPad and 60” HDTV?
