    That is funny.

Not quite apples to apples though.

For one thing, Massachusetts is a state, and the laws were negotiated and enacted fairly openly and had a broad by-partisan support.

I don’t see any difference besides “state” and “BI-partisan support”

Irrelevant, petergrt, since the Obama plan has elements explicitly based on RomneyCare – which was praised highly by Republicans at the time, because it included individual instead of government focus. Those elements are in the healthcare reform bill – and are NOT what Obama would personally prefer. In fact, it is arguably more a Republican plan than a Democratic one. And the lack of bipartisan support in the Congress is a red herring. The more germane question is why the GOP wants to deny its own child now.

” … insurance is, in our society, an interstate business …”

Ever tried to by ‘medical insurance’ across state lines?

In fact, most states, if not all, have special bureaucracy to control ALL INSURANCE - hence STATE INSURANCE COMMISSIONER(S).

Unfortunately, the Commerce Clause is the most misused part of the original Constitution.

“[The Congress shall have power] To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian tribes;”

So, when we’ll see the destructive effects of this grotesquely corrupt federal legislation, you will be justified to blame the Republicans.

petergrt, “grotesquely corrupt federal legislation”? Oh, c’mon. After the lying to get us into Iraq? The no-bid contracts for the Vice-President’s own company? The oil and gas executives like famous fraudster Ken Lay writing our “energy policy” with the VP, who forbade anyone to see what the discussion was about or even who was in the meeting (officially)? This legislation would have to go a long, long way to catch up with the Bush Administration.
