What a strange and disturbing cartoon. What kind of future would one expect if a person traveled back to instill and reinforce neuroses in his younger selves? Yet, I guess I have sometimes thought with disdain of my past and feared my future — for me, that’s the point of the cartoon. . I once read a story in F&SF in which each child has one chance meet his Bigself, in a brief visitation from the future. But the Bigself gives his child counterpart helpful advice and encouragement about his future. Apparently not every child receives the visitation, only those who succeeded in life — so it’s an enhanced status thing.
