I still don’t know why Apple won’t let Flash on the iPad. Maybe he’s too resource-intensive or unstable and they don’t want anything on the device that could jeopardize the user experience. The experience is already jeopardized without him, though.

Jobs thinks that Adobe had let Flash languish and not kept up with development. Safari on the iPad will be able to handle html5. That has the capability to do everything flash can do and more. It’s another Apple gamble just like USB.

Actually, Apple is heavily invested in the H264 codec. Apple gets 10-20 cents for every hardware chip that supports html 5 video using H264. Why wouldn’t they push html5 over flash?

So can I surf on an iPad like I can on my iMac or not?

On that last question, Steve Jobs’ introductory presentation claims that you can, if anything, surf better on an iPad.

I remember Macromedia! I remember the name Aldus, but nothing about it…

I don’t mind Flash at all, but a computer geek among my friends despises it and I assume he has good reasons for doing so. Maybe I just have lower needs or expectations than he does.

Scott Pilgrim is HTML5, so he’s all right.
