Actually, that is rule 14. It pales before rule 34, however… they all do.

Is this based on a recent event, or social commentary? Or is it a comment about us on this site?

Don’t worry about the trolls Rall, you’re awesome!

I shudder to think that we, the commenters, might have any influence on the direction of Ted’s content – but the thought did cross my mind.

Ted has posted here in the past, in fact. And I fear this cartoon is very insightful.

    Ooo, oo, watch:

    “Rules for radicals indeed. ”

Like … “quick quick, let’s get to the Internet first and pass around this notion of a ‘death panel.’ It’s completely bogus, but it’ll make people angry and hate the bill. Ooo! It worked! Now let’s call it a government takeover and say they plan on killing babies.”

I am not too sure this cartoon is about us. I seem to remember an argument between Ted and some other guys (in another site) over having some control or oversight over the internet, Ted positing about the libelous, instant damage of anyone’s reputation caused by anyone under the guise of anonymity and how having some type of control would be beneficial. I think.

“Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.” –some guy

Putting out burning straw men is an impossible whack-a-mole contest today.

Unfortunately the walled off discussions on the Internet mean that the straw-men keep burning with no indication that they are ridiculous.

Looking @ the US from outside I’m frankly worried about the health of your democracy, indeed it is becoming a problem throughout western democracies as debate disappears from the general media to be replaced by “inoffensive” celebrity “news” and politics is reduced to a beauty contest.

That reminds me of John McCain’s quote about Mitt Romney (Dec. 29, 2007):

“Never get into a wrestling match with a pig. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.”

For more than twenty years now, I’ve driven azzles crazy on the Internet by ignoring or making fun of their abuse, insults, lies, slanders, misconstructions, and diatribes. I have especially enjoyed epithets and have accumulated a list of 340 or so; whenever someone uses a new one (a rare occurrence these days!) I publish the list in the same venue. On the Internet (and probably elsewhere) you don’t have to insult people; those who need to be insulted will insult themselves.

I do publish my words these days under pseudonyms, since I have received death threats and have no interest or need for fame in my business. An ignored azzle is an infuriated azzle, and there is no good reason to take chances.

How come no one is talking about the fact that he got away with saying a-word? Or has everyone that tried been flagged?

    @Sirrom567 Oh so true!

So the cartoonists can say “asshole” in their cartoons, but we can’t say it in our comments? LOL! America, land of double standards — That’s how we will be known in history a thousand years from now.

Good one, Ted. Any time I read a bunch of comments and a couple of people start arguing with each other, I just quit reading and go somewhere else…
