Peter: I can't believe Dad cheered me on like that today. I mean, even after he saw I was just a benchwarmer, a fourth-stringer, a nobody, he kept right on yelling, "rah rah Peter! Rah, rah, Peter! I thought for sure he'd think I was a failure. I thought for sure he'd be disappointed. Sometimes our Dad's pretty cool. Paige: For a guy who says "rah"

My son loves football and he’s far from the most talented player but he works hard and the coaches play him occasionally to reward the hard work. I sit through every game hoping to see him in for a few plays. That’s what parents do for their kidlets.

As a parent of a kid not finishing up near the top, I’m with Roger. In years to come, the most important thing will be that dad was in the bleachers, not that he wasn’t a star (or a starter or even a player).
