Remember when oil hit $100 a barrel and gas shot up to $2.00 a gallon and it was all Cheney’s fault? Oil has stayed around $100 a barrel (fallen below that recently) and gas is still over $3.00 a gallon, dropping from close to $4.00. Of course, that has to be Biden’s fault, right?

The truth of the matter is that all the current problems in the Middle East started right after WWI, when the British in their infinite wisdom carved up the area and created these fake countries that exist today, that had not been in existence before then. Its been all downhill since that time.

That’s a lot or reading for so early in the morning, but it was interesting.

Mankind is a sad animal. There will always be war in the mideast as there always had been. Remember 50 years of peace in Yugoslavia? how did they celebrate freedom from the Soviets? We never learn.

masterskrain: Really nice post. Clear and to the point. I just learned some things. Now, strictly speaking, the “whole mess” is more than the Crusades. I suppose that the crusades then, and a whole series of episodes since then might be an important part, but considerably less than all of a series of conflicts. This train seems to have no beginning and no end.

What ever those two say, it is more profound than most media.

The problems began long before the Crusades. Try the early Greeks, followed by the first Roman empire. The Middle East has been invaded and conquered by so many roving dictatorships that there is no way to recall a time when they were left alone…

Yah, Obama giving weapons and funds to ISIS in Syria sure helped.

Ut-oh, I feel a rant fulminating: I can remember that after the Six-Day War in 1967, in which Israel annexed land including the Gaza strip, the Arabs were made into a laughingstock by a lot of professional and amateur comedians in the US. Many Palestinians were put into what amounted to camps, with little chance for many of them to leave. (Yes, I know that a lot of Arabs wanted to disappear Israel into the sea.) I started reading an English translation of the Koran once, and was struck by how, near the beginning, it started dissing Christians. I also note that in some Jewish festivals, like Purim, there appears to be quite a bit of gloating over the misfortunes of others. My humble opinion is that all this behavior is like the behavior of kindergartners. I believe that even in kindergarten, we’re taught not to say, “Mine is bigger and better than yours.” Maybe if we (including me) could put more of a loving spirit into our relationship with all peoples, not just our own tribe, things would go better.

It’s not the insanity. It’s the money. Oh, wait. I guess they’re the same thing.

Let’s not forget that when Bush “led us into war” that the congress voted to authorize both wars AND voted to authorize enhanced interrogation techniques. He also made available to those same members of congress all intelligence available. If some in congress choose to forget their own vote, there is no excuse for the rest of us to.
