Is Dana advertising a movie she maybe worked on? or just one she loves? I mean the MLP toys are generic pastel ponies this is a real movie. Im intrigued.

I was born two years after that film was released. The title song by America is tremendous. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp8qevE-09s

Mia Farrow? At least the title character isn’t voiced by Tara Strong; she’s in everything.

Oh, wow. What a reference! I’ll be very interested in what Marigold thinks of the film… not to mention Phoebe, who know knows what a “real” Unicorn is like. Also, pretty much everyone who follows this strip would probably heartily joy both the film and the book “The Last Unicorn”, followed by the short story “Two Hearts”. Just sayin’. It’s only a benchmark of my childhood and one of the two animated films I keep coming back to over the years, after all.

Also: Amalthea not being more beautiful than Marigold? Tough order, and tough choice!

Beagle is just getting back the film rights and intends to have a live action version made.

There was an abortive attempt to make a live action film back in the late 90s or there abouts. I also have one of the cels from the original film.

By the way, regarding “the title song being tremendous” (it is); it should be noted that although America does a great performance, Jimmy Webb is the composer.

Just the other day I saw the Muppets pilot, the one where Mia Farrow guest starred. The minutes she opened her mouth, all I could see was Amalthea. It lasted only for a minute or so, but it was pleasantly eerie.

Before you watch the movie, read the book.I’m not a big fan of Rankin/Bass cartoons! but they did do a creditable job with The Last Unicorn.Still, the book is far, far better.

Just don’t watch Ridley Scott’s ‘Legend’ together. Marigold will have bad dreams for a month. And whatever you do, stay away from, ‘The Cabin In The Woods’

My brother is working with the Beagle road show, with his old alma mater, Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, hosting the showing through the uni’s anime club before it moves up to University of Illinois-Chicago. Search for lastunicorntour.com for more details.

The way most people’s TVs are setup, the aspect ratio is already off and people’s faces are already stretched wide. Nobody else seems to notice it, but I can’t stand it. It’s a pet peeve of mine.

You’ll always be the most beautiful Marigold. Although the Red Bull is pretty cool looking.

The Last Unicorn, in my book, is as good/successful an adaptation of a book as The Princess Bride. Both take great swathes of words directly from the sources.

Personally I think the best line in the whole movie was spoken by the cat. “No cat anywhere, out of its first fur ever gave anyone a straight answer.”

Actually, Amalthea and Marigold are already acquainted:

When the last eagle flies over the last crumbling mountainAnd the last lion roars at the last dusty fountainIn the shadow of the forest though she may be old and wornThey will stare unbelieving at the last unicorn

When the first breath of winter through the flowers is icingAnd you look to the north and a pale moon is risingAnd it seems like all is dying and would leave the world to mournIn the distance hear the laughter of the last unicorn

    I’m alive, I’m alive

When the last moon is cast over the last star of morningAnd the future has passed without even a last desperate warningThen look into the sky where through the clouds a path is tornLook and see her how she sparkles, it’s the last unicorn

    I’m alive, I’m alive

I didn’t know, until recently, that Mr. Beagle had also written an episode of TNG – specifically, the episode “Sarek” which sort of started the unification (so to speak) of TOS and TNG. (I have to say “sort of” because there was Dr. McCoy’s cameo in the pilot episode 2 1/2 years earlier.)
