But, but, but… it kinda DID happen with LPs. They’re making new pressings with more weight (like the older ones) and charging for them as collectibles. But I’m not holding my breath for 8 tracks and cassettes!
Inheriting a collection of shellacs, we had major difficulty finding a 78 turntable. Most places looked at us as though we were wanting a cylinder player.
Reminds me of the scene in the first MIB flick where K (Tommy Lee Jones) showed James (Will Smith before he became J) the chrome-plated fender washer on the tour of MIB HQ and told him, ‘These things’ll replace CDs. Guess I’ll have to buy the White Album again."
Never replaced my LPs (or 45s or 33s) as I can’t stand digital music. It does not sound right. One can still buy record players and needles. One has been able to buy LPs all along as, depending on the performer, many performers insisted that they be issued that way also. I have since found out that others think that digital music is too, for want of a better word, metallic sounding, and that analog music- records – is much warmer.

Don’t replace all your music when the format changes, just buy new music in the latest format. That what I did when CDs hit in the 1980s.

Unfortunately, most of the oldie stations that I get. They play only certain oldies all the time.

Why would you buy mp3s to replace your CDs when you can copy mp3s off of your CDs?
