“As both Ukraine and Israel are finding out the hard way, a sworn treaty with the US is as worthless as Prince Barry’s ‘red lines’.”One has but to open a history book and look at the US government’s treaties with the native Americans to understand a treaty with the US just might be worthless.

Diplomacy will put an end to this. Words are mightier than the tank, unless you’re standing in front of it.

Deploying weapon platforms on foreign soil costs huge amounts of money, even if not used. Diplomacy is not ‘exciting’ and results are often not realized for long periods of time. If Russia decides to change their mind, all they have to do is withdraw a few miles and their home. If the USA deploys weapon platforms, tanks, SAMs, mobile howitzers, etc, it will cost billions, billions the Congress has shown itself unwilling to spend on infrastructure, immigration reform, healthcare and more. Spending this money to defend Ukraine will have republicans calling for offsets to pay for our ‘police action’.The actions Russia has taken up to now has cost it. Their gov’t has warned citizens that food and other commodities may be in short supply over coming months. Russia is hoping that Europe will be afraid of oil and gas shortages over the winter and will therefore let it get away with what it is doing. Mr. Obama and Ms. Merkel are in talks about this very matter and the US will probably see higher gas prices over the winter as the US tries to help fill the gap left by Russia boycotting oil sales to Europe.Every time Russia takes an action like this, just like ISIS beheading of Mr. Foley, the world takes a harder look at them. There are many nations who recall life under the Soviet Union and they are talking about how to help Ukraine make a stand against Putin’s attempt to restore Soviet glory.Attacking the President for not rushing into a shooting war with a nuclear power is unwise and shortsighted. Putin may very well be willing to go toe to toe with a USA he perceives as poor and divided. But recall that after attacking Pearl Harbor, Yamato is said to have said, “I fear we have awoken a sleeping giant.”The giant has been sleeping for awhile, but if our people can remember that we ARE neighbors, we ARE fellow Americans, and we ARE United, the giant will sit up, and the world will take notice.Respectfully,C.

The way tostop Putin and his Ruskies is Rubles. If the Nato countries stop purchasing oil and natural gas from Russia, these are the only sanctions that will work. This crisis was the theme for Tom Clancy’s latest and last book. He wrote it about a year before the crisis started.

Thousands of dead civilians in Gaza, tens of thousands of dead civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq, thanks to American supplied weapons, and now OMG! almost a dozen Americans have joined ISIS, and we’re ALL GONNA" DIE!

Western Ukraine (Kiev) overthrew a democratically elected leader, granted he was a jerk, but: the ethic, Russian speaking, folks in the eastern Ukraine, didn’t like that, so Putin is helping them (yes, Putin IS also a jerk, kinda’ like Cheney in fact) so Russia is of course, the “bad guys”, for opposing the Kiev regime that’s also committing atrocities against those Russian speakers in the eastern section.

It isn’t so much that Obama is a weak leader, so much as the American media, and right wingers, and some “lefties”, are in serious need of a guide dog, or red-tipped white cane.

Kindness does matter. So does accuracy, Kindness. While I was not certain where I had heard the quote, I knew it was from more than just one source. The link I provide shows several possible locations that may have brought it to our attention. I hope it helps.*http://www.princeton.edu/~achaney/tmve/wiki100k/docs/Isoroku_Yamamoto_s_sleeping_giant_quote.html*Sincerely,C.

@Respectful TrollGood comments. We have a basic problem here. Very much like the cold war again. In the 1950s and 1960s the Soviet Union intervened in East Germany, Hungary and Czechoslovakia. There just was not much that could be done directly and in the short term without risking World War III. But in the long run the Soviet Union collapsed.
