A good cops best weapons is the trust of the public. The rising use of military weaponry and tactics by police for minor events show trust in a cop is becoming more and more misplaced.
The distribution of armored vehicles is insane, period. Having made hundreds of arrests without shooting folks, and that included violent felons, the increasing level of violence is only made worse with “men in cammo” .
Armored SUVs don’t look that “abnormal” on the street and can offer protection, and are less threatening, which is better for police than “scare tactics” of MRAPs.
Who first proposed giving surplus military weapons & vehicles to ANY police department? It’s stuff like this that I wish our news media would REGULARLY investigate and report.
