Having a riot before any facts are known is not exactly due process. Admittedly the police handled things very badly but rioting, looting and burning down buildings is also over reaction.

It is just an excuse to loot.

Agreed, to a point, but no one is blameless here. Although it was disgusting to watch a CNN reporter, who happened to be black, talk about how he didn’t feel threatened by the big crowd of people who were carrying signs and were given a microphone to tell how the photos had been photo-shopped (the fact that you have a microphone in your face does not make you an authority on anything), it didn’t do the police any good to leave the body in the street, or to have one of the officers call the protesters “animals” on camera either. And if police show paramilitary force and weapons, it doesn’t take a lot of imagination to fear what looks like a military invasion. Still no excuse to riot and destroy property that has no relationship to the incident.

And the “us vs. them” mentality is not limited to the public vs. the police. It has been vigorously promoted by both political parties and many cable “news” networks for so long that it is now part of the national fabric. Enmity politics may help with fundraising, but it is the exact opposite of what we need as a society. When the other side ceases to be a part of your extended family and becomes the enemy, the likelihood of compromise and civil discourse gets pretty close to zero.

So the “Innocent kid walking down the street” turns out to be a thug who commits robbery and brazenly intimidates a much smaller store owner just hours before the incident.Once again, like with Trey-Von, the race-card folks jump to conclusions and end up looking like clowns. That includes you Barry!
