I too have concerns about the militarization of our police forces. But the suggestion that the police shoot black teenagers on sight is both toxic and lazy. There are few things more damaging to the life prospects of a black youth than to convince him that the police are his enemies and to fill him with a paranoid fear of being shot down senselessly. Shame on the cartoonist for encouraging such a cynical and damaging worldview for the sake of a cheap gag.
“The Governor of Missouri called in the National Guard because the peaceful demonstrators/looters started shooting each other.The city cops tear gas didn’t work.Nor did the State cops tear gas.Now the National Guard, full of war vets, gets to try their tear/puke gas out on the gang thugs/peaceful/looters.……………………………………….Given the opportunity,who wouldn’t shoot tear gas at an Al Jazeera news team?”1) They also shot tear gas at a peaceful protest group that included a US senator.2) Most reasonable people wouldn’t shoot at a news crew unless they were causing a life threatening situation. Are you suggesting that you would shoot at them just for being there???
