What’s the real answer? (It had to be Jason to set up a li’l tutoring business.)

I’ve heard that this (the complex word problems) is what my daughter is looking forward to this year. The thing is, she IS looking forward to it! She’s more like Jason than Paige in that aspect.

@bryskiYour answer is incorrect. the orange is suppose to be less than the apple not more.I would guess at 7 cents for the orange.

    $0.183O = (9/2)A3O = 4.5AO = 1.5A

    O+A=$0.301.5A + A = $0.302.5A = $.030A = $.12O = $0.30 – $0.12 = $0.18

you are dividing too early. 2o=3a or 2o+2a=5a so 60=5a and a=12 thus o=18. the other way 2o=3a or 5o=3a+3o=90 and o=18. keep items in integers (units are cents) and the division is easier in the head. no calculator or paper/pen needed.

It’s funny watching people post the correct answer, how to arrive at it, then STILL watch others say they’re wrong. Our country’s education is pitiful.

    Another way to look at it:If 3 oranges costs $6, then 9 apples costs $12. So each orange is $2 and each apple $1.333333…. 2 + 1.33333 = 3.33333. 2/3.33333 = x/30 and cross/divide, get 18¢
