Fortunately it will be ending in about eight days.I fail to understand why this artist just wasted a whole week of strips gushing over what is undoubtedly the most miserable month of the year.

My aunt used to vacation every year in Seaside Heights, NJ during the month of August. They did this for years. Her family just Loved August and looked forward to living there for the entire month! ;)

I am guessing Jan is on “vacation”! Let her have some time off!! I like these simple dog days of summer strips to reflect on the warm weather we’ll be missing soon enough.

Jan runs a week or two of “You gotta love August” strips every year. Usually it’s earlier in the month, but I guess Evie’s wedding storyline took precedence.

It’s 57 degrees today, been overcast all week, no rain, just dark clouds and humid.

Judging from the expression on Alex’s face, it’s definitely a waterfall!

I don’t know where the author of Stone Soup lives, but having grown up in northern Wisconsin, August was the only part of summer where the lakes were warm enough for swimming in (they had just melted in April or May). If this is set in northern WI or MI or MN or ND August it makes perfect sense.

There are folk happiest in the city and folk happiest in the country. Folk happiest at the beach and folk happiest in the forest. Even folk happiest in the sun and folk happiest in the rain. So why argue if August makes someone happy?

you can always put on another layer in february. but only take off so much in the heat. I find most people who love the summer heat work in air conditioned buildings.

What makes anyone think Jan is on vacation? She still has to draw the strip. I’m counting the days until August is over. It feels like an oven outside and the A/C bill is huge. I love Oct/Nov.

I love August and I live in South Georgia. It’s been 100+ for three days in a row. But the beauty of a dying Summer isn’t defined by heat or sweat but by changes in how the sunlight looks in the morning and how the plants react to this and the stars in the sky. I feel sorry for anyone who doesn’t look past comfort for beauty.

Here in the heart of North America the summer has been one of the nicest I can remember. I can count on one hand the number of times the temperature has exceeded 32 C/90 F this season. This is a trend I hope will repeat next year. That being said, July and August are still my least favorite/favourite months of the year.

Also, the end of August implies September = school. August has been quite hit this year (in Oregon). But as a child I would understand a great vacation and school around the corner.
