Interesting that the Dalai Lama said that Tibet is seeking “autonomy”, NOT “independence”. That concept should appeal to Texans and Alaskans- and clarify the situation?
Tibet and Taiwan are both in similar situations with China, and our complaining doesn’t really change history. Think giving South Carolina back to the Cherokee.
I’m not a Quebecer and I don’t think separation would be a good move for either Quebec or Canada, but if there is another referendum and the “yes” side wins, the people will have spoken and should be listened to.
The situation of Tibet reminds me pf the way we treated indians. We claimed to civilized them by forcing them out of their religion and putting them into residential schools. Bad move.
It still haunts us. As we speak, Quebec isn’t theorically part of Canada. It didn’t sign the 1982 constitution. The Meech Lake accord failed because of a native guy’s opposition (among other things).
It’s karma! The indian question haunts us and the Tibet question will haunt China for years to come.

China doesn’t “like” this. Why doesn’t Facebook have a button for that?
