Transcript:
Nate: Tell me, Teddy, do your parents make you set academic goals? Teddy: No... Teddy: They say that as long as I'm doing my best, that's what matters. Nate: AH-HA! Nate: Hear THAT, Dad? TEDDY'S parents are happy as long as he TRIES! Dad: But you don't try. Nate: Ohhh, Yeah. Dad: That's sort of the whole point.

Nate obviously follows the Homer Simpson philosophy, “Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is, never try.”

Mr. Peirce, I know that all you working cartoonists do your strips way in advance of their actual publication, but……this week is making me hope you’ve cooked up a “day before Labor Day” strip like the “think we should start on our summer reading lists?” Sunday strip of a few years back: A REAL SIDE-SPLITTER!! Laugh! Chuckle!! Snicker! Mirth! Merriment!! AND a well-timed HAW!!

My goal for school is not to get less than a B-, and I have been doing that except a couple of years ago when I got a C+ in art, the only subject that I’m told that “you can’t make mistakes”.
