We would make a gingerbread house the beginning of December and the boys would start eating it first thing Christmas morning. They seemed to think it was fine. I noticed that our oldest lets his boys start eating it the day after they make it or, maybe sooner.
As a kid, I had a book of this. Very realistically drawn. There was the part where the witch is testing Hansel to see if he’s fattened up, and he sticks a chicken bone out instead of his finger. I just had a flashback to that. Freaky!
The Grimm brothers did soften some of the stories. But the whole point of them was to train kids to not do what the children do in the stories. Why nothing is attracted to the gingerbread house. Magick keeps them away.

In some houses, the story would be changed so that the witch would try to eat Ruthie first!

Meanwhile, how many of us have wanted to do what Nick does in today’s comic at creators.com?

Ruthie sounds like my daughter (when she was Ruthie’s age – and as an adult, actually). :o)

First time Ruthie’s reminded me of Sheldon Cooper.

This is why it’s important to leave poisoned bread crumbs, so you can get home following the trail of dead birds.

Dad with books, Ruthie can write her own story.

Ruthie is such a literalist. :D
