Show Cylene that hip check move you saw in a NHL game.

I ice skated once. Taught myself how that day. Didn’t fall down once.

I recall my father taking me skating/teaching me skating when I was about Ruthie’s age in the early 1950’s. I fell down a lot, and my Dad gave me the encouraging advice that I would need to fall down 1000 times before I could skate. He said he had done so himself. Nonetheless, I persevered and by high school I could skate well enough that I enjoyed it, and was no longer falling down regularly. So hang in there, Ruthie. Practice, practice, practice.

I can roller skate, but not roller blade or ice skate. Very weak ankles, made worse when I broke my right ankle in 08/1987.

Ruthie at least mom is letting you learn to ice skate, do not concern on Cylene, she been skating longer. My mom had me and my sister too old, she lived the old way of life, my mom knew nothing of skating; therefore sister and I did not skate or go swimming.

My sister was like Ruthie about skating. Happy to be out there trying, but hating to see so many others doing so much better than her. (It didn’t help that when she fell, she split her pants (she wore tight, light cotton, instead of something more roomy and flexible.)

I loved ice skating. It can be such an individual sport. We didn’t have competitions in my small town so there was just me and the ice with an occasional lesson. No teams to be sorted or tryouts. Took a year off for a bad arm break and didn’t go back to it but it was a wonderful confidence builder.
