What can really happen is that software get remotely activated locking the webcam on, sending the police the location and and recording a very amusing video of the arrest. If you don’t care to recover the computer there are other more destructive options too.

My bank used to do that — three strikes and you had to phone the branch to apologize. Now they have even more devilish hoops to jump through!
