The toon is actually accurate, and the issue predates Hamas. I can’t support Hamas, but I also can’t support the decades of oppression the extremists in Israel have continued, unabated, and not condemned by enough of the world. Sanctions are simply long overdue.

As The Gaza Strip has a border with Egypt, you have to ask yourself why is that border closed?

It is a fact that Hamas uses Ambulances to transport “militants” aka terrorists, and weapons. It is also a fact that Hamas uses UN schools to store Weapons.

If Hamas has such a problem with the blockade (when most of the aid goes through Israel) why is it the tunnels into Israel are concrete lined? Why not use the concrete for peaceful purposes, instead of perpetuating the war. When Gaza was handed back there were homes, greenhouses & an infrastructure, what happened? Hamas destroyed them, and blamed Israel.

Israel also has its hands dirty (destroying the homes of terrorists for example) but in this conflict they are restrained.

Hamas uses human shields, and then cries when there are innocent victims…

While in Israel I listened to a few Israelis say the same, one of them was a dual-national from South Africa! And this was in the late ’90s. Come to think of it, the more liberal opinions I heard were often from foreign-born Israelis. Our Canadian-born tour guide for one. Then again, another, our instructor and Romanian born, said he worried about the extreme bigotry the recent Russian-born immigrants were exihibiting. They are there, just not enough of them. But perhaps they will gain traction. Witness the efforts of organisations such as Breaking the Silence."

admits: “Yes, that’s the point. The Jews are afraid of what they are being forced to become. “

”Just like I’m appalled every time we blow up an innocent in Pakistan and every other place we are killing people to protect THIS country”

‘“One side sees life a precious, the other side has gone over the edge.”

Couple of things…your 1st quote & 3rd quotes I’ve listed above: Your nation hasn’t been brutalised for generations.’He’s going to reply the Israelis are brutalsed, too. Yes, that’s also my point.‘ – omQ

As for the 2nd & 3rd: Your nation hasn’t been brutalised for generations and it resorts to the same appaling terror and evil. Why?

In quieter moments I often wonder how is it that people of my generation, and prior, had allowed things to develop to the point the entire world treated me and those in my circle/level/community/society in SA like pariahs. Why hadn’t we realised sooner that what were we doing was so bloody awful and oppressive. I read about pre-‘33 Germany, and the events that slowly evolved afterwards and the attitudes of the people…how did they not notice what they were becoming? Then I remember where I grew up. I know how it happens.I visited their Holocaust museum. One cannot adequately express the horror. I’m just astonished that this particular society, often called democratc, developed, advanced, is well on its way to becoming as appalling as the society I lived and grew up in, and worse.

Fortunately, I met a few who wanted this to stop. Unfortunately, that was almost 20 years ago. Fortunately, as I mention above to martens, there are still some who think this slow backwards move must stop.Unfortunately, are there enough of them?

Dude, do you want to be at least be more accurate when you defame?

‘ISIS has ordered all girls and women between the ages of 11 and 46 in and around Iraq’s northern city of Mosul to undergo female genital mutilation, the U.N. said on Thursday.‘ – Al Arabiya News, 24 July 2014

I imagine the above was in reaction to the below:’Campaigners at Girl Summit call for end to female genital mutilation’

From above article:“Experts tie the practice to specific ethnic groups rather than a particular religion or country”

And what does this have to do with the conditions in Gaza?

See what I mean by attempts to denigrate an entire religion rather than acts that should be critcised and/or condemned.

Some folks who decry violence, and defend the worst offenders, wear tinfoil yarmulke.

When the building holds missile launchers, the purpose of bombing it is to destroy the missile launchers.

Under international law, placing military installations in residential areas is a war crime. Hamas are war criminals.

its so easy for us living over here in the West to come up with solutions to the Middle East problems. We are able to have discussions and debates on what should happed. we can look at both sides of the problem and hope to come up with a reasonable compromise. The big problem is we are not over there. If some one tries to debate and come up with a solution over there they are taking their life in their hands. There are fanatics (on both sides) who would shoot you in the head in front of your family to send a message. The “regular” people there live in a constant fear of the (so called) Enemy and of their own Leaders.(who they know will not hesitate to crush them for speaking out against the status que)I will always remember the Peanuts Cartoon were Lucy was going to Clobber Linus for something and he goes into a speech about too much violence in the world and not enough love and if we just have more respect for each other we could come to a peaceful solution. She ends up clobbering him saying “I had to hit him, he was starting to make sense”I do not have a solution for Their problems because they must truly want to end the conflict and the only way is to stop the violence. and any solutions we in the West will propose will never go anywhere. First true step would for the Palestinians to get Rid of Hamas. You can not have peace with them as your Leadership. Next Israel must step back and let the Gaza strip alone. no blockades etc (but only if Gaza agrees not to attack Israelis. Maybe the UN should get between the two like Cyprus But todays UN is Anti Israeli so that might not happen as many countries like that there is war there It keeps their own hardliners focused away from their country. all in all I pray for peace and love
