Guess the Family has come to grips with it!

(Phil - if you’d use crest, you won’t have that gleem in your eye!)

Is Phil thinking that it is the beginning of a new story for him and his beloved? I’d like to see the relationship progress. A woman can be better off single, but Phil seems like he could be a manicorn himself.

Phil *is* a manicorn already. Hasn’t anybody noticed? Give me one example of a time when he behaved badly!

I don’t think we’ve seen enough of Phil to know whether he’s a manicorn or not. He hasn’t been tested. I mean, Wally’s a good guy, but he’s no manicorn, and the difference may just be that we’ve seen Wally in a wider range of situations. I doubt Phil’s going to turn out to be a total jerkface or anything, but if his visibility is going to increase Jan might have to round him out a little more.

vldazzle, that’s in interesting point. Stone Soup on the whole seems to be remarkably free of jerks. (I complain about Holly, but she’s mostly just clueless rather than malign.) There nobody in the usual “foil” role.

Val’s boss is no prize, but he’s seldom seen, and not as bad as Sally Forth’s boss (ex-boss) Ralph or Mr. Dithers…

And where exactly is the gleam? You guys can read a novel out of some of these comics. LOL

Maybe I’m a pessimist but even a manicorn has his faults, they are just over powered by his good qualities.

Wait a minute, it look’s like Phil is drinking a beer, and Val has a glass of wine! Where is this conversation taking place?!?

If it were in a restaurant or over the kitchen table, I think they’d probably both be drinking the same thing. Most likely they’re hanging out in some lowlife saloon…

(shortness, while I’m not opposed to a marriage proposal by Phil down the road, I’d like to see him worked into more storylines before this turns from a “single Mom” strip to a “newlyweds with kids” strip.)

Val and Phil seem satisfied with their present status and don’t want to be pushed. Of course, that could change. As for jerks, what about Joan’s first husband. Fortunately, we seldom see him. What is a manicorn???

marvee, I’d thought of Joan’s first husband after I posted, but he hasn’t been around in years… Likewise, Andy’s parents supposedly are no prize-winners, but we’ve never seen them at all.

As far as “manicorn” goes, read yesterday’s strip.

Shortly after I started reading SS there was a nice character development storyline with Holly and Phil. http://www.gocomics.com/stonesoup/2005/08/08/

(This Genius-for-a-fortnight gift is kinda neat!)

alshoney, I am also a little like Evie. My friends and family were a little shocked when after I no longer had aging parents in IL, I decided to move to AZ and bought a house before finding a job and with no local friends or family. I have since made many friends and other F&F visit regularly. I want to live where I can enjoy a lovely garden and pursue many arts and crafts. I love being the friendly grandma lady that local kids bring me valentines (this week) and regularly visit.
