There is always a way to socialize existing pets to a newcomer. We are about to do that with our Bogart and Foster the Wonder Dog, the little guy I fostered last year and am now adopting and bringing home from Florida :)The adopter decided she didnt want him anymore and sent him back to me – 10 months later -so she could get a miniature poodle instead!I am absolutely furious with her but very glad that she contacted me instead of just dumping him somewhere.She made me furious but Foster is going to the best home ever…MINE :))
Cats have interesting ways of letting you know they aren’t happy with their current living arrangements, though. Like deciding that your bed is their new litter box— and no, the new puppies did not in any way threaten the cat or create any reason that it couldn’t get to the litter box. He was just pissed and letting me know it. He now lives in a heated closet with a cat door to outside— in the garage. But he seems to have adjusted pretty well, in fact he has two other cats that are spending a lot of time there with him. I think I may have three cats instead of one, but at least I don’t have to wash the bed daily.
During the reign of Queen Beatrix the First, Last , and Only(God be Praised!) she welcomed each new canine member of the family the same way: She squared her DI hat, marched up to the new dog, gave it a quick up-and-down once over, then gave it a hard, claws-in, right paw across the nose! With Dominance thus established the Matriarch of Kzin now had a new minion for life (one Beagle, one Dachshund, and five St. Bernards!)
