From anecdotal evidence, most people are well aware that the average “gay” just ain’t cut out for the military….just an oberservation, and don’t bother to point out the exceptions….
Danziger is putting them out faster then we can comment on them.
I think fennec has the right idea, it is the current 18 - 24 generation. I have 4 nephews in that age range, we have a big pool so they and their friends spend a lot of time here, and that’s what they look and act like. Things have been easy for them, and they expect it to continue to be easy.
This GOP depression has left them stuned. Their parents don’t have money to give them, they have to pay for their own car insurance, they are no longer covered by their parents health insurance, and they are just beginning to realize that work means taking any job you can find and being good at it.

HB,
Anecdotes don’t equal statistics/truth. I have met many gay men who served in the military–some got out w/o being thrown out and others were forced out. I would guess that YOU certainly couldn’t detect them and they’d probably beat your a$$ in a fight. So you can stop with the stereotyping.
I have to hope that JD meant this as satire–of the way that the homophobes think and not a dig at those who wish they could serve in the military with honor and dignity and not have to live in fear of being outed.
“From anecdotal evidence, most people are well aware that the average “gay” just ain’t cut out for the military….”
By “the average gay”, I assume you mean “the ones you can tell at a glance are gay.” Some gay men are effeminate, that’s true. Others are hyper-macho. Real-life examples of both stereotypes are plentiful. But the “average” gay is indistinguishable from the “average” straight in everything except sexual attraction. Just because you can’t pick them out of a crowd, don’t make the mistake of thinking they aren’t there.
“You Know You’re Really in San Francisco When…” Your hairdresser is straight, and your plumber is gay.
Everyone seems to focus on the feared gay guy. “Don’t drop the soap.” They’ve also thrown out steriotypical lesbians who are quite competent at hyper-macho stuff that’s useful on the front lines..
Even if it were TRUE that the average gay “just ain’t cut out for the military”, what difference would that make? I’m straight, and I ain’t cut out for it either (the U.S. Army and I are in perfect agreement on that point).
There are codes of behavior that military personnel are expected to follow, gay or straight. There are also performance standards that they are required to meet, gay or straight. Anyone who has been thrown out of uniform under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was presumably NOT thrown out for another reason. They were therefore presumably “cut out for the military” in every other respect.
These days dog-faces, jar-heads, swab-jockeys, and fly-boys (and fly-girls) are all volunteers, so those who aren’t “cut out for the military”, gay or straight, either won’t join or will be cut out FROM the military in short order.

If Danziger wanted to be ambiguous, he’s succeeded.

Likely to be a net plus, since the BS will take other tracks…
