Dr Canuck, do you really believe that everything the Chinese produce is junk ? The problem with the US is not the Chinese ; rather it lies much closer to home. It is hardly the fault of the Chinese that necessary investments in, for example, the country’s material and immaterial superstructure haven’t taken place, nor that bank regulations were relaxed under Mr Clinton (one of the things that most amused me in the years leading up to the present crisis were the chaps from Wall Street sent to tell foreign leaders, not least the Chinese, that they had to give up their stodgy old methods of running banks and enter the modern world by letting Wall Street take over ; for some reason these trips have become much less frequent this last year), nor that you imprison 1 % of your population (far more than in any other land) or that the mortality rate from firearms was highest there among 35 high and middle-income countries (about 2 1/2 times the rate in Northern Ireland at the height of the Troubles). But by all means, do keep blaming the Chinese - it takes the pressure off folks like NeoCon !…
