Last pet I adopted from the humane society had so many fleas it took me a week to clear them all. Collar + meds and major flea combing. That poor guy was a miserable solid mass of the pests, so no, humane society adoption kennels don’t do much to control fleas. I guess they don’t have the budgets. On the other hand, he was an awesome buddy and I don’t begrudge a minute of the time I spent cleaning him up.

I’m surprised this comic doesn’t get more complaints from animal shelter supporters. The shelter I volunteer at would never allow fleas to inhabit a dog, or adopt out an animal with fleas.

When I adopted my pound kitty, many, many years ago, she had fleas. When I took her to the vet for her 1st checkup he said that because of the elevation and cold winters, there were no fleas in Reno. I flipped the kitten over onto her back and showed him all the critters cavorting on her pink little belly. “Really? So what are these?” I asked. He was stunned! A good couple of flea baths, and never had any other problems with the critters.
