    In theory our ancestors began to walk upright for a variety of reasons. 1. It allowed them to see farther to spot danger sooner. 2. It freed their hands for carrying tools (weapons). 3. It required less energy thereby giving them extra endurance. Personally I think it was their teens just rebelled at using all fours and walked upright to spite their elders.

    I know this is a cartoon..but that would be painful if you walked like the first guy all day like that, especially if your limbs were evolved to walk upright.
